Hi, I’m Shalaka Kulkarni (she/her)—an interdisciplinary dance artist rooted in the traditions of Bharatnatyam and Kathak. My work lives at the intersection of the ancient and the contemporary, often creating space for stories that are too often left unheard. I’m passionate about developing a hybrid movement language that weaves classical Indian forms with text, film, technology, and other movement practices to craft intimate, layered, and thought-provoking performances. In short, I’m a dancer, choreographer, actor, and writer of stories that I usually end up performing myself—because who else is going to capture all my dramatic hand gestures just right?
